First Buck!

This one I’m slightly less excited to tell the story of. That is because it was slightly worse than the rest of them. It’s also a very short story. Basically, Vegas and I were cantering in a group lesson, And he was getting a little racehorse-esc. All in all nothing to be worried about, because this is something he does fairly often and he always reigns it in and calms down. As you can tell from the title, this time he did not reign it in or calm down, LOL. We were cantering along, and another lesson pony, Otter, was coming up behind us at a canter. I wasn’t worried at all, because this is all normal lesson stuff. Vegas being a knucklehead, no issues. But this time, he decided to buck. It was completely unpredictable, both of the trainers who were in the arena at the time said that they did not know he was going to do that. And so did all of the other riders. You see, Vegas bucks sometimes, but usually only in the indoor or in the pasture. And never before he even jumped.  But he did

First Fall!!!

Ha ha, it’s funny to me that my title to this article is just as excited as my first jump article. Like I promised in my last post, I come bearing stories of falls! Believe it or not, before riding at my English barn, I had only ever fallen off a horse once. So I’ll start with telling that story. We had been riding bareback at my western place. We were practicing emergency dismounts, which meant that we had to get on to the horse from a short stool to ride after the dismount. I was trying to get on, and I hopped up on the horse on my stomach. I tried to swing my leg over to get into a sitting position, and I fell face first into the ground. Most embarrassing fall story ever. But I thought I had broken my nose because I had landed face first. Luckily I did not, though I had sand in my mouth and nose and eyes and…… But anyway that was my first ever fall. Hope you enjoy 😂 Now, my first real fall.. That last fall was more of a losing of balance than a true fall, so this is going to be a

First Jump!!

A couple weeks ago, I had my regular Wednesday afternoon lesson and I have officially moved from ground work lessons to jumping lessons!!  Last week Vegas and I were supposed to trot over a pile, but he decided to jump it, despite it being not even a foot tall 🤣, and I was able to two point it easily (with the cheat of grabbing the mane). So if you’re getting technical, we jumped then.  But I’m not, so I’ll tell you my real first jump, hahaha! So basically, we did our normal warm-up and cantering stuff, and then my trainer said “OK, are you ready to jump?“. I was extremely surprised, because I thought I was still a couple months off from jumping, but of course I said yes! She set up a couple small piles, and we cantered a figure 8 over them. Vegas was so excited. He hadn’t been doing a lot of jumping in a while, and he’s a born jumper, so he was so happy to be jumping again. Even if it was less than a foot. When I say excited, I’m talking flying lead changes, keeping a good speed (de
