Merry Horsey Christmas!!

Image
Hey all!  Just wanted to share some adorable photos with you of Dot’s Christmas photo shoot from yesterday! I HIGHLY recommend you try with your horse, it was so much fun and the results are perfect!! I gotta say, it made me love Dot even more!!! (If that’s even possible) Look at the end for the products used for the shoot and how I pulled it off! Obviously, these are only my favorites from the shoot! It required a lot of rapid-fire thumb work and plenty of sorting through to find my favorites! There were quite a few that look like this..  I basically just put her bridle on (over the Santa hat), put on the rein covers and noseband cover, and spot groomed her. Then I found somewhere with good lighting and a background I didn’t mind and threw the reins over her head!  She did try to follow me, but I found that if I got someone to yell, clap, or kiss at her, she would look in their direction long enough for me to snap some rapid fire pictures!  I also found that I liked the position fro

Confidence Drop..

So I was gone for basically two weeks, and I only rode like twice in between. The two rides in between were AMAZING and I felt so good, I jumped 2’3 easy peasy, it was great. I got back and rode and for the most part it was super good.  But then all the sudden, on my lesson on Saturday the 4th, I completely was confidence-less. It felt like I hadn’t rode in forever (in reality I had rode twice that week), and I could barely jump. I also was making Dot duck out of jumps because of this. We ducked out of like three or four jumps, even though if I had rode with Dot, she could have easily jumped them. Granted, the jumps we ducked out of were 2 foot, but we have jumped 2 foot with no issues multiple times. So we ducked out, but overall it was decent. Then, yesterday, I was horrible! There was a huge storm rolling in, and I was not jumping anything! Dot would canter up and I would practically ASK her to stop in front of the jump. She didn’t care at all about the storm or anything, but I was

First Horse Show!!!

Image
Hi everyone, as you all likely know, I just went to a horse show this past weekend on November 6th. Today I’m going to give you some things I did to make my horse show go well, and what I would change in the future to make it go even smoother! The specific tips are all in  bold  for convenient reading! This was Dot’s third-ever show, and before she had just done walk/trot. I had only ever been to one other show, Western, on a 23 year old school master! So it was completely new for both of us! Afternoon/Night Before: First things first,  I created a master packing list ! I added everything I need for going to a day-long horse show with my trainer. I didn’t include things that she already has, like hay, lunging equipment, etc. You can take a look at it here:  My Master Packing List Then, I went to the barn Friday, I curried Dot and basically  show groomed her , combing a bit of  Cowboy Magic  through her mane and tail, then using a soft brush to spread a little over her hindquarters, n

Something Cool I learned!

Image
Hi everyone! Just a quick random update on Dot! I don’t know if you all remember a while ago when I said that I had no idea what Dot was? Anywho, with some expert Googling (lol), I have found what I think she is!  I mean, we know she is a paint/quarter horse something or another, but I believe that she has a patterning that makes her a Sabino Horse! Here is the best picture I have of her patterns ⬆️ And here is a photo of a classic Sabino Chestnut ⬇️ Here’s some interesting information about this new marking I just learned about!! (hahaha) “  Sabino  describes a distinct pattern of white spotting in  horses . In general, Sabino patterning is visually recognized by roaning or irregular edges of  white markings , belly spots, white extending past the eyes or onto the chin, white above the knees or hocks, and "splash" or "lacy" marks anywhere on the body.” “  The term “sabino” was in use prior to the mapping of the  horse genome  to describe a wide range of  pinto  s
