Hi all! Today I’m going to introduce you to a home-town celebrity! Get ready, and you might wanna sit down....
For those of you that don’t know who Secretariat is, here’s a brief description from Wikipedia...
“Secretariat (March 30, 1970 – October 4, 1989) was a champion American Thoroughbred racehorse who is the ninth winner of the American Triple Crown. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest racehorses of all time. He became the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years and his record-breaking victory in the Belmont Stakes, which he won by 31 lengths, is widely regarded as one of the greatest races in history. During his racing career, he won five Eclipse Awards, including Horse of the Year honors at ages two and three. He was nominated to the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1974. In the List of the Top 100 U.S. Racehorses of the 20th Century, Secretariat is second only to Man o' War.”
Well anyway, a friend at my English barn has been looking for a horse. Ideally she didn’t want an OTTB, but she just wanted a horse that can jump well and high and wasn’t too green. So she was sort of casually looking, and had bought Beau (
meet him HERE), but decided he was too green and not her style (to dainty, maybe? She loves big thick horses).
So then she found an add for a big chestnut OTTB. She fell in love with him immediately. It was out of state, so she couldn’t go see him. She watched videos and saw pictures, and decided to buy him. (She called it her Amazon order horse)
Meet Okie Buckaroo, the huge 17 hand chestnut gelding. We know him as Odin. He was born 2014, is OK bred, and is an absolute sweet heart. He last raced in October 2018, and earned a total of $90,794. Not great for Secretariat’s grandson, haha!!
Here is his five cross pedigree, if you want to double check his celebrity-hood :))
He loves treats, and will often suck your fingers in with them!! He’s a huge cuddle bug, and loves to be in your pocket.
He’s not very hot for an OTTB, and surprisingly not too green. I mean, obviously he’s green, but not what you would expect from an OTTB.
He’s very big and muscled with a large gait. He’s amazing on the ground, and will walk nice and loose next to you most of the time. He’s super friendly and usually doesn’t pick on people and horses.
Anyway, he’s super sweet and friendly. I love him so much. And now I can officially say I’ve met the relative from one of the biggest celebrities of all time 😁 Meet Okie Buckaroo, AKA Odin.
WOW!!! Thats soooo cool!!!!
