20 Things That Make Horse People Happy
As a horse owner or even just a horse lover, there are a few satisfying, smile-inducing experiences that will make your day! Here are a just a few.
1) Freshly groomed arenas. Not a hoof print in sight, except for the ones behind you.
2) The sound of shod hooves on concrete. Nothing beats the clip-clop down the barn isle, or when you hear a horse-drawn carriage approaching.
3) A stall with fresh shavings. Even if it might be peed in or rolled in the moment you put the pitchfork away.
4) Daylight Savings Time. For horse people like us, it’s better than Christmas.
5) Tack with coordinating colors. If your saddle pad matches your polo wraps, you’re winning at life.
6) Bling. Too much? No such thing.
7) Freshly washed saddle pads. The laundromat might hate you for the amount of dirt and hair you leave behind. But the end results? Worth it.
8) When the show photographer gets the perfect shot. Maybe he caught that moment where your horse’s stride is extended, and your equitation is on point. Or perhaps he captured you turning a barrel and your facial expression isn’t cringe-worthy.
9) When you get the correct distance to a jump. 3… 2… 1… nailed it!
10) Those 11’s in the dirt after you slide stop a reiner or a cowhorse. Proof that your horse can use that cute bum of theirs!
11) When you hit a barrel during a barrel race, but lean over and save it. If you know what this feels like, your balance and coordination are skills are to be envied.
12) When you order tack and it fits your horse, no returns or exchanges necessary. This goes for blankets too. Miracles do happen!
13) When you braid or band your horse’s mane for a show, and all the braids end up being equal in size.
14) When you mount someone else’s horse and their stirrup length fits your leg with no adjustments needed.
15) A freshly clipped horse. Because he finally looks like a horse again, rather than an expensive goat.
16) A clean saddle. Leather can often revert to looking new again, assuming you condition it properly. Beyond satisfying!
17) When you horse gets a new set of shoes. Nothing beats new kicks. And since these ones are far more expensive than what you’ll ever put on your own feet, be sure to stop and appreciate them!
18) Blue ribbons. Because hard work does pay off. No matter how many times you had to eat dirt to get there.
19) When your horse loads into the trailer on the first try. Maybe you’ll get to the show on time, for once!
20) When your horse greets you with a nicker. Because it’s proof that he loves you (and he probably loves treats, too).
