Facts About The Coronavirus

Hey all,
Amelia here.
So far, we haven't written anything on the coronavirus. We obviously don't know all the facts and if we did, those facts would undoubtedly change within the week. So I'm going to give you the base facts.
If you want more facts, the reliable websites we use https://morgridge.orgcdc.gov, and coronavirus.jhu.edu.

  • The coronavirus receives its name from the crown-shaped cell that is seen when the virus is viewed by a very strong microscope. As for COVID-19; ‘CO’ stands for ‘corona' (not Colorado); ‘VI’ for ‘virus'; ‘D’ stands for disease; and lastly, '19' refers to the year 2019 when the virus was identified.
  • COVID-19 is also referred to as 'a novel coronavirus'. This simply means that this strand virus is new, or previously unidentified. There are many different strands of the coronavirus, so this one that is causing our pandemic is just one.
  • The coronavirus was first detected in Wuhan, China. The first infections were transferred through live animals, but the virus is now spreading from person-to-person. Part of why the virus is so hard to predict is because it can change.
  • Older adults and people of any age who have serious medical conditions are at higher risk for more serious problems from the coronavirus. You are almost certainly safe if you are young and\or healthy!
I hope this answered some of your questions or at least soothed some anxiety from the coronavirus. I recommend CDC for ALL of your questions because it is reliable.
Keep living life random,
Amelia
